Dante: creative food, great wine, cool atmosphere

Food: 5/5 Price: $$$$ Atmosphere: modern lounge meets fine dining

Every time I go to Dante I have a great time. First of all, the food - conceived and prepared by Chef Dante de Magistris (formerly of Blu) - is fun, creative, and delicious. The wine selection, by bottle and glass, is eclectic and first rate. The space is great, too. Located in the Royal Sonesta Hotel at 100 Cambridge Drive, Dante overlooks the Charles River and the Boston skyline. Inside, 20-foot floor-to-ceiing windows provide the view, and seven dining areas provide all the variety you need: a cozy nook near the bar, two semi-private function areas, two dining rooms, and a deck.

I've hung out at the bar, gone on dates, and partied at Dante since it opened in 2005. Managers Damian de Magistris and Seth Yaffe preside over a tightly-run front-of-house service that has made every experience memorable. Both of them, and the entire staff, are knowledgeable about their food and drink, and are always ready to talk about it - and even set up the occasional flight of tasty and unusual wines or scotches. Mmm.
